Shibata Miwa (b.1997, Japan)
Shibata Miwa (she/her) is a Japanese dance artist, choreographer, and mindfulness consultant based in Berlin since 2023. Her work, characterized by its socially engaged themes, is grounded in a curiosity for exploring society’s complexities through movement. Currently, she is seeking performance and teaching opportunities to deepen her connection with Europe’s dynamic arts scene.
Born in Tokyo:huge and packed city, Shibata began her journey with 20 years of training in modern ballet and studied at Nihon University College of Art. She has since collaborated with companies/collective/artists such as KUKI Performance Group (JP) and Natural Dance Theatre (JP), Sasha Waltz & Guests (GE) where she developed a strong foundation in contemporary dance and improvisation. A trained Seitai and massage specialist and mindfulness consultant, Shibata brings a holistic perspective to her understanding of movement and the body.
Her choreography Oblivion was awarded the French Embassy Award for Young Choreographers - Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels at the Yokohama Dance Collection. Following this, her work Victorious Cupid premiered in December 2023 in Japan, developed through an artist residency at the CN D in Paris.
Her latest piece, The Riled, created with the Sugar Army Collective, premiered in September 2024 at Symposia.Berlin, addressing themes of masculinity, class, and identity. Shibata’s work continues to invite audiences to engage with and reflect on pressing social and cultural issues, establishing her as a thoughtful voice in contemporary dance.

柴田美和
柴田美和（しばた みわ／She/Her）は、ベルリンを拠点とする日本出身のダンサー、振付家、マインドフルネス・コンサルタント。1997年、東京に生まれ、幼少期からモダンバレエに20年親しみ、日本大学芸術学部で学びました。2023年よりベルリンに拠点を移し、現在、同市の活気ある芸術シーンで公演や指導の機会を探しています。
これまでに、日本のKUKIパフォーマンスグループやドイツのサシャ・ヴァルツ＆ゲストといった団体と協働し、コンテンポラリーダンスや即興の手法を深めてきました。また、整体・マッサージ、マインドフルネス・コンサルタントとしての資格も有しており、体や動きへの深い洞察をダンスに活かしています。
彼女の作品は、現代社会の複雑さを映し出し、問いかけるものが多く、特に公演や観客との集団的な表現のエネルギーを大切にしています。振付作品 Oblivion は、Yokohama Dance Collectionにてフランス大使館賞 Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpelsを受賞。その後、パリの国立ダンスセンター（CN D）でのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）を経て制作された Victorious Cupid が2023年12月に日本で初演されました。さらに、ベルリンを拠点に結成したアーティスト集団 Sugar Army Collective とともに最新作 The Riled を2024年9月、Symposia.Berlinにて発表しました。この作品では、男性性、階級、アイデンティティのテーマを扱い、観客に社会的・文化的問題への再考を促しています。
彼女の創作活動は、メッセンジャーとして社会における緊急課題を取り上げ、観る者と共に問いを共有する場を生み出すことを目指しています。
